(13-08-2025) CETEMIN Institute —an educational institution that provides specialized training to mining companies at its campuses in Lima and Arequipa— has been awarded its second star in the “Huella de Carbono Perú” (Peru Carbon Footprint) certification, granted by the Ministry of the Environment (MINAM).
CETEMIN promotes the responsible use of resources among its students and staff, and also encourages activities such as tree planting, which contribute to mitigating environmental impact.
Among the actions that made this achievement possible are: the thorough measurement of GHG emissions at the Lima and Arequipa campuses; consolidation of information on energy consumption, paper use, and transportation; as well as the participation of the educational community in sustainable practices, such as the home–workplace mobility survey. This recognition is based on the external verification of the carbon footprint measurement in accordance with ISO 14064-3:2019 standards, which ensures the consistency, transparency, and reliability of the data reported to MINAM.
CETEMIN has implemented various actions to measure and manage its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The assessment that led to this distinction covered 100% of the institution’s operations and represents a milestone, highlighting its commitment to sustainability and reducing its environmental footprint.
The institution aligns itself with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) and contributes to environmental well-being.
CETEMIN offers technical programs lasting less than 11 months in a boarding format, as well as scholarship opportunities through local training programs funded by mining companies, as part of their social responsibility initiatives in the areas where they operate. https://www.cetemin.edu.pe/empresas
“At CETEMIN we shape people with purpose. Our mission goes beyond imparting technical knowledge; it drives a deeper transformation: we want our students to take an active role as agents of change in the face of the climate crisis. That is why we integrate sustainability as a cross-cutting axis in our training, promoting not only skills but also convictions. We are preparing leaders who understand that the future of mining is tied to the care of the planet and the well-being of communities,” said Raphael Delgado, General Manager of CETEMIN.
